Phrasal Verbs

Hi guys. Hope you're enjoying the long weekend.

Last class we:

  • Worked on Phrasal Verbs in Unit 6, with emphasis on phone conversations (p. 40-41)
  • Practiced collocations with have, do, make, or take (p. 41)
  • Applied both skills to the text on pages 42-43
The homework for next class (the 15th) is Exam Folder 3, p. 44-45. You've got two weeks, so
DO IT ALL

Like we talked about in class, phrasal verbs require constant attention and repetition. When you come across (encounter) a new one, be sure to write it down and practice using it later.

There are a lot of useful resources on the internet to help you build your phrasal verb vocabulary. Check out this one to get an idea of what's out there.

Also, when you are watching English or American TV shows or movies (as you should be!), listen for phrasals as they arise:

This video from Friends demonstrates the proper use of several common phrasal verbs, but the person who adapted the video made several transcription and spelling mistakes.
Can you tell me what the mistakes are??

  1. I think I found three mistakes:

-I'm gonna take off (instead of -I'm to take off)
-What?! No way you can't leave! (instead of -... you have to leave)

In the definition of "hold off" it says "to keep at a dictance" it should be to keep at a distance.

    See you on Saturday!
